Coal is required when producing liquid hot metal in the blast furnace. The coal is heated in coke ovens which are oxygen-free.The process is referred to as ‘dry distillation’ and the final product is mettalurgical coke. The metallurgical coke is utilised as fuel in our blast furnace. The coke oven gas is also utilised as fuel internally.
The most important raw material that is required for steel production is iron ore. But, as is the case with coal, iron ore cannot be used directly in the blast furnace. That is why it is necessary to create sinter. The sintering process is a pre-treatment step in the production of iron. The process basically consists of heating the iron ore with metallurical coke and the final product are porous pieces of sinter which are further charged in our blast furnace.
The power plant represents the main media for the production & distribution of steam, electricity, various gases and water. It also supplies the steam for city heating.
In the blast furnace iron ore (in the shape of sinter) is melted into liquid hot metal. The starting point are fuel (coke), ores, and flux (limestone) which are continuously supplied through the top of the furnace, while a hot blast of air is blown into the lower section of the furnace through a series of pipes called tuyeres, so that the chemical reactions take place throughout the furnace as the material falls downward. The end product is in fact pure iron, which is the ideal base for the creation of steel in the next production phase.
The steelmaking process begins with transfering the hot metal to the mixer which equalizes the chemical composition and prevents hardening. Hot metal is then charged with scrap into the BOF converter. The chemical composition of the mixture is then finalized on the ladle furnace and cast into billets which are used internally for rolling or sold as semi-finished product.
Our QC department has an important role in the control of all raw & input material as well as finished goods, ensuring sustainable production in the integrated route.
For all the plants to function smoothly, the Central services department is continously maintaining all machines, equimpent & tools.
The billets from Steel plant are processed in our Bar mill and Wire rod mill. The finished products are reinforcing steel in bars and coil, wire rod in coils. The wire rod is also used in our Mesh plant to produce mesh panels, cold ribbed wire rod & lattice girders.
Transportation & Logistics
With a welldesigned in-plant infrastructure and organization, we ensure that all necessary inputs are recieved on time and transport our products efficiently through trucks, trains, boats and barges.
