History of steelmaking

The rich history of more than 120 years of Iron and Steel Works Zenica dates back to 1892 when it was established by a group of Austrian industrialists. Along with the millennial tradition of steel production in this area, this location was chosen due to natural resources, large energy coal deposits, and the availability of communication lines along the valley of the river Bosna. At the very beginning of its operation, it was the centre of the first major European industrial wave that covered the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The increase of capital and profits enabled the modernization of the facilities, which has been maintained throughout its history in several important phases.
